Electrical and Energy Systems Integration for Maritime Environment-Friendly Transportation

نویسندگان

چکیده

The policies against climate change require the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions marine transportation. To reach planned goals, most promising approach is working both on ships improvement and ports redesign. latter must enable new green supply with sustainable electrical energy, by integrating shore connection systems, local renewables, energy storage systems. In this paper, a methodology to obtain such an objective proposed, capable taking into account ships’ ports’ characteristics. workflow explained through case study, where two power sizes different operative approaches for recharging ship onboard are considered. A discussion about suitable technologies also provided. study shows how can be applied, as well demonstrating that port infrastructure has direct effect environmental performance.

‌Optimal design of onboard energy storage systems with volume limitation for urban electrical rail transportation

Train braking energy regeneration in urban electrical rail transportation systems can reduce energy consumption and operational cost of the system. In this paper, optimal design of an onboard energy storage system (OESS) with volume constraint is presented for urban electrical rail transportation systems (ERTS). Onboard super-capacitors are considered as the storage system. The objective functi...

Using Dynamic Thermal Rating and Energy Storage Systems Technologies Simultaneously for Optimal Integration and Utilization of Renewable Energy Sources

Nowadays, optimal integration and utilization of renewable energy sources (RES) are of the most challenging issues in power systems. The wind and solar generation units' maximum production may or may not occur at peak consumption times resulting in non-optimal utilization of these resources. As a solution to this problem, energy storage systems (ESS) are embedded in networks. However, the power...

Maritime container logistics and onshore transportation systems ( Part 2 )

The last decade has seen tremendous investments in new container ports, vessels, and linked onshore transportation systems. Due to the high level of customer service requested and the complexity of logistic processes in seaport container terminals, many terminal operators have attempted to improve the performance of their terminals by applying new technologies including automated equipment, adv...

Designing Hub and Spoke Transportation Systems for a Competitive Environment

In this paper, we consider the design of large-scale hub-and-spoke transportation networks in a competitive environment. We adopt the hub arc location model that locates arcs with discounted transport costs connecting pairs of hub facilities. Two firms compete for passengers in a Stackelberg framework where the leader firm locates hub arcs to maximize its revenue, given that the follower firm w...

Hierarchical Modeling and Simulation Environment for Intelligent Transportation Systems

ion is a key to model construction for simulation [21-24]. Abstraction, as a process, refers to a method or algorithm applied to a model to simplify its complexity while preserving its validity. The amount of detail in a model can be taken as the “product” of its scope and resolution. Scope refers to how much of the real world is represented; resolution refers to the number of variables in the ...
